After successfully passing the relevant SIA Training course with our training provider you are eligible to apply for the SIA Licence. This is your responsibility to ensure that you have satisfied the training requirement, unfortunately you will not be granted a SIA licence unless you do so.
The following SIA training activities are licensable:
It usually takes around six weeks for each application to be processed; this is the time from when a correctly completed SIA licence application form is received.
It normally takes one to two working days for a correctly completed application to be checked and processed on to the SIA’s system. Due to the of the high volume of applications being received this process can take up to five working days. Complex applications (for example, applications subject to Criminal Records Bureau or qualification enquiries and those requiring overseas criminality checks) may take six weeks or more to process.
A decision will then be made on whether a licence is appropriate for the individual. SIA will write explaining their decision and, if successfully granted, a licence will be issued which will need renewing in three years time.
It is a legal requirement for anyone working in the UK security industry to have the necessary training and qualification, accredited by the Security Industry Authority. It is a criminal offence to practice in the industry without a valid SIA Licence, which could lead to fines and even be jailed.
SIA malpractice is very seriously taken indeed and takes prompt action to suspend licences. after receiving information from any awarding body. Any person found to have been complicit in malpractice will have their licence revoked. If you suspect any malpractice with your training provider, please report to us immediately.

If you are applying for an SIA Licence for the first time, please use the form on SIA website, once you submit the form you can take your identity documents to one of 750 post offices and complete the application process.
Check your application, verify and, return your documents. A digital photograph with an electronic signature will be taken and the payment will be processed. The post office will forward the verified application to SIA to complete.
This service makes application process economical and convenient; most applicants will no longer need to post valuable documents or supply a photograph which saves extra money.

Apply for SIA Licence
SIA have now launced in e-Fill SIA Licence service. This service allows you to fill the application form online.
One out of ten SIA Licence application are returned due to incorrect completion. You can work as soon as you receive an acknowledgement letter from SIA, which can take 2 weeks following your SIA license application. However not all Security companies will accept SIA reply letters acknowledging your SIA license application, therefore you need to wait for the badge to arrive which could take up to 3 weeks.
