A teacher’s assistant offers support to the lead teacher in the classroom, allowing the teacher to spend more time focusing on instruction in the classroom. The teaching assistant’s duties are both clerical and instructional. A teacher’s assistant provides students with instructional support by reinforcing the lesson plans of the teacher. As a teaching assistant, you will support children in their educational, emotional and social development either individually, in groups or as a whole class.
You will also support the teacher by undertaking duties that will free up their time for teaching, such as preparing the classroom for lessons, making resources and creating displays of children’s work. Teacher assistants should have patience, a willingness to work with children and follow instructions and work in a supporting role. In this course, you will learn the knowledge and skills needed such as supporting behaviour of children and young people and facilitating learning for students with disabilities.
The course will be delivered directly to you, and from the date you joined the course you have 12 months of access to the online learning platform. The course is self-paced, and you can complete it in stages at any time.
