Which jobs and skills will be in demand in the future?

 

Research conducted by the UKCES (UK Commission for Employment and Skills) provides an overview of the jobs and skills that will be demanded in the future. Their Working Futures Report is based on detailed labour market information and offers a forecast up to the year 2020 based on past behaviour and performance.

The report findings predict that there will be a rise in employment but this will happen over a steady period. It also predicts there will be more job opportunities by 2020, for reasons such as retirement, moving countries and family circumstances.

Jobs and Industries

Professions such as managers, professionals and associate professionals are expected to continue to grow. The findings expect 2 million new jobs to be created. Therefore, demand for workers with more advanced skills and higher levels of qualifications should continue to rise.

So what to do when making a career decision?

You should ideally research in your interested field. Read surveys that have been conducted to give you an idea of what your future holds within that particular career. While information can be obtained, we must not forget that future economy status of jobs cannot be known for certain.
